Obituary for Sue Chong Vang

Chong Sue Vang, a 32-year resident of the Yuba-Sutter area, unexpectedly passed away at Rideout Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on September 28, 2018. He was 86 years old.

Chong Sue was born March 2, 1932 in Xieng Khoung, Laos and spent his early years as a farmer and livestock owner. After the end of the Vietnam War, he and his family spent 4 years in a Thai Refugee Camp before immigrating to the United States in 1979, as political asylums. He became an Assembly Line Worker until his retirement.

He was summoned into the army as a military policeman, fighting the enemy troops at the frontline and was instrumental in rescuing a downed American Pilot who had crash-landed. He later joined the U.S. Secret Special Guerilla (SGU) army as a G2 officer and was appointed to oversee and coordinate the general military activities and supplies in the central headquarter in Long Cheng. Prior to the fall of Laos, he was promoted to a Second Lieutenant.

Chong Sue was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for the last 38 years. He also was an active member of the SGU Veterans and Families of USA, Inc. as well as Lao Veterans of America, honoring the Hmong and Lao special combat units that served in the U.S. Secret Army in Laos.

He received numerous Commendation and Citations from the Congress of the United States and Assembly California Legislature for his Vietnam War Service in Laos and his courageous defense of his people and homeland against communist aggression, as well as his support and sacrifice on behalf of the United States military and clandestine forces from 1960 to 1975.

Chong Sue is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shoua Thao Vang of Marysville; five sons, Xay Vang of Marysville, Paul Vang of Marysville, Michael Vang of Browns Valley, Cher Vang of Marysville, Tong Vang of Marysville; three daughters, Vang Kong of Carpentersville, IL, Xia Vang of Marysville, Kang Vang of Marysville; 36 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and prosperity for generations to come.

He is preceded in death by his father, Chue Doua Vang; mother, Sao Chang; brother, Nyia Lue Vang; sister, Yer Chang; son, Bee Vang; daughters; Mang Vang, and Yia Yang.~Chong Sue touched the lives of many people throughout his life in the quiet ways that he went about. For those who would like to extend their condolences to the family, a viewing will be held at 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2018 and Friday, October 5, 2018. Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 8:00AM to 10:30AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Linda Building, 1997 North Beale Road, Marysville, CA. Interment will follow at Sutter Cemetery.
